Scapolite Group Visible Spectra (350 - 1100 nm)

The scapolite group minerals vary from marialite, Na4Al3Si9O24Cl, to meionite, Ca4Al6Si6O24CO3
The origin of color of violet scapolite is related to radiation-induced color centers involving the CO3- ion that can be formed from radiation damage.
The gem quality varieties of the scapolite group of minerals pictured here are usually the mineral marialite.
